Peace Cyclists complete European ride

The Peace Cycle has completed the European leg of its epic journey from London to Jerusalem. On August 30th the cyclists reached Rome, exhausted from a tough ride through northern Italy, but with their spirits high and looking forward to the next stage of the ride in the Middle East. The 25 men and women taking part, from varied backgrounds, faiths and nationalities, have showed remarkable strength and determination to overcome the physical challenges of cycling from London to Rome. Once over the Alps, they faced some of the highest and steepest hills Italy had to offer on the mountain roads from Bologne to Florence.

Israel blocks entry to Nablus of the Peace Cycle Team

The Peace Cycle has arrived in Palestine on Tuesday, September 22, but have been blocked from passing through the Beit Eba checkpoint at the entrance to the West Bank city of Nablus. Arriving at the checkpoint at noon, the cyclists waited over two hours awaiting permission to pass. Although the cyclists have been carrying the message of Peace during their entire trip on bikes from London to Jerusalem, the Israeli army does not allow them to move freely within the West Bank. The Team has been rerouted at least 15 miles around Nablus to the village of Howwarah. The cyclists all traveled from Jordan into Palestine last Tuesday.

End the Cycle of Violence - Join the Cycle for Peace

The Peace Cycle will begin at a rally in London’s Trafalgar Square on 14th August 2004. People from all kinds of faiths and backgrounds will come together to begin an amazing journey to Jerusalem. For six weeks they will cycle through France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, and into Israel. They will ride into the West Bank and cycle through Palestinian towns and villages to Jerusalem, and on to Bethlehem’s Manger Square. Muslims, Jews and Christians, people from all races and religions, will ride side by side to show they believe in peace and justice for all the people of the Middle East.

The Peace Cycle 2004: London-Jerusalem Bike Ride

The main aim of this event is to raise awareness of the plight of the Palestinian people due to the continuing Israeli occupation of Palestinian land, which is denying peace and security to all the people of the region. The ride will start in London (probably Trafalgar Square) on either 7th or 14th August 2004. It is intended that the start will coincide with a big rally for Palestine, to be organised with the support of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, The Friends of Al-Aqsa and other pro-Palestinian groups. As much media coverage as possible will be arranged at the start, with high profile supporters in attendance.
