CKUT Radio: War Crimes in Jabaliya Refugee Camp

CKUT Radio: Palestinian Prisoner Hunger Strike



Listen to an interview with Mahmoud Ziadi, spokes person of the Committee for the Families of Political Prisoners and Detainees in the West Bank. The interview focuses on the current hunger strike of more than 7,000 Palestinian political prisoners throughout Occupied Palestine, while also drawing the links between the current hunger strike and the ongoing Palestinian struggle for liberation from the deadly and illegal Israeli occupation. Interview: "Operation Rainbow" Follow-up with Creator of 'Rafah Today' website, direct from Rafah



Listen to an interview with Mohamed Omar, an independent Palestinian journalist from Rafah refugee camp in the Gaza Strip. Mohamed is the creator of the independent news website Rafah Today, which documents life and death in the Gaza Strip. Mohamed, who’s home was recently demolished by the Israeli military, speaks about the importance of an independent media movement in Palestine to document and uncover the often hidden realities of the Israeli occupation. The interview outlines the current situation in Rafah, focusing on the constant Israeli Occupation Forces incursions into Rafah refugee camp, while also exploring the aftermath of the massive Israeli military incursion dubbed “Operation Rainbow” in late May 2004.

Two Palestinians were killed and seven Israeli soldiers and 13 Palestinians were wounded today when a bomb exploded at Kalandia checkpoint, separating Ramallah and northern parts of Jerusalem from the rest of the city. Six Palestinian wounded were taken to Ramallah hospitals. All Israeli casualties were Israeli army officers. They were taken to hospitals in Jerusalem. As Israeli soldiers are combing the streets of Jerusalem neighborhoods ar-Ram and Dahiya al-Barid, the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack. The Aqsa Martyrs Brigades said the attack was meant to retaliate for Israeli actions in Gaza. Israeli armed forces imposed a closure on Ramallah. Hundreds of Israeli police and soldiers are deployed in the area. 

Interview: ISM's Radhika Sainath, editor of "Peace Under Fire"



“Peace Under Fire” is a recently published collection of written accounts, drawn from the web-logs and diaries of International Solidarity Movement (ISM) activists, news articles, press releases and reflections of ISM members engaged in confronting the Israeli occupation on the ground in Palestine. During the past 2 years ago the ISM has brought hundreds of international activists to work in the occupied territories in campaigns of non-violent direct action targeting the daily workings of the Israeli occupation. As the International Court of Justice will render its advisory opinion in the case concerning the legal consequences of the construction of the Wall in the occupied Palestinian territory on July 9, 2004, EI’s Arjan El Fassed visited Bethlehem, Beit Jala and Beit Sahour where Israel continues the construction of the Wall. Ironically, the meaning of the Hebrew name of the settlement built on Jabel Abu Ghneim, separating the Bethlehem district from Jerusalem, “Har Homa” literally means “Mountain of the Wall”. Israel’s Apartheid Wall will completely separate Beit Sahour, Beit Jala and Bethlehem from the northern parts of the West Bank.

As the International Court of Justice will render its advisory opinion in the case concerning the legal consequences of the construction of the Wall in the occupied Palestinian territory on July 9, 2004, EI’s Arjan El Fassed visited ar-Ram where Israel continues the construction of the Wall. This week, Knesset member, Azmi Bishara, went on hunger strike in protest against the wall. Dozens of protesters joined the lawmaker in a tent at ar-Ram, which is located between Kalandia and Beit Hanina. Despite a ruling of the Israeli High Court, construction of the wall in ar-Ram continues.

As the International Court of Justice will render its advisory opinion in the case concerning the legal consequences of the construction of the Wall in the occupied Palestinian territory on July 9, 2004, EI’s Arjan El Fassed visited various sites where Israel continues the construction of the Wall. On 8 December 2003, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution, in which, it requested the International Court of Justice to “urgently render an advisory opinion”. UN member states filed written statements and subsequently, public hearings were held from 23 to 25 February 2004.

At the 21st National Convention of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) in Washington DC, from June 10th-13th, EI’s Nigel Parry shot video footage of Palestinian-American poet and political activist Suheir Hammad reading her poem Beyond Words. Recipient of the Audre Lourde Writing Award from Hunter College, the Morris Center for Healing Poetry Award, and a New York Mills Artist Residency in Minnesota, Suheir has recently been touring with the Tony Award-winning Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry Jam. At the 21st National Convention of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) in Washington DC, from June 10th-13th, EI’s Nigel Parry shot video footage of two performances by Palestinian comedians — Maysoon Zayid and Dean Obeidallah, who are definitely rising stars in the American comedy circuit and host their own New York-based FM radio show, Fen Majnoon (“Crazy Art”) with Dean and Maysoon.
