Video: Will Trump bring peace in the Middle East?

I spoke to Aaron Maté of The Real News about Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas’ Wednesday meeting with Donald Trump at the White House.

Abbas praised the president’s “courageous stewardship” and “wisdom.” Trump expressed effusive optimism that he could achieve what has eluded all his predecessors: broker a peace deal between Israelis and Palestinians.

But is there any basis to believe that Trump will have any more success than his predecessor Barack Obama, who raised similar hopes when he took office eight years ago?

We also spoke about the Palestinian prisoners’ hunger strike, as well as Hamas’ new charter and what implications it could have for Palestinian politics.

Watch the video above.

Thanks (Ali Abunimah) for the most recent and excellent analysis on "Trump" and giving your opinion about his (and other key players) commitment to peace. Perpetually calling-out the seemingly staged "fake concern" is essential in moving toward an acceptable (and final) solution. It is despicable that this atrocity has been allowed to fester for so long, as the global civil society continues to act powerless (or simply don't care). The good news is that a change will come, and the people will be set free. There's is no other option.

Just finished reading your book about a one country solution I always held out for two separate nation states but as you point out, it is now imposible. Sadly, I have to agree with you. I wish Abbas had never met Trump. Reminds me of Al Gore and Romney meetings. Just lots of bluster
