Video: Spoof of “Like the ‘IDF’ on Facebook!” brings dose of reality

I am sure many people have seen the Israeli army’s propaganda video trying to depict itself as a cute bunch of soldiers who want people to show them love on Facebook. The original video features smiling groups of Israeli soldiers saying “Like the IDF on Facebook” as an attempt to publicize their Facebook page.

Well, we have Sam Playle, who goes by SamLovesHummus on twitter, to make the IDF’s video more realistic. Sam has delivered a better version of “Like the IDF on Facebook” which indeed depicts the Israeli army as it is in reality.

When asked what the reason was that he decided to remake the video, Sam said:

People are very good at blocking out things they don’t want to see - like pointing out injustices. Humor can get around the defence mechanism, and subverting IDF propaganda seemed like an obvious way to do that. The contrast between the friendly and humanized image the Israeli army presents to the world with the brutal reality of occupation is shocking. Plus, it feels good to use the Israeli propaganda as a tool to achieve liberation for the Palestinians.

Sam had previously also remixed the “Happy New Year from the IDF” propaganda video, it is also worth checking out.
