In Spring 2007, Dan Halutz, former chief of staff of the Israeli military, participated in an exclusive 8 week managmeent course at Harvard Business School. Halutz oversaw the 2006 Lebanon war during which he ordered Israeli pilots to bomb 10 multistory buildings in the Dahiya district of Beirut as a response to Hezbollah’s rocket fire on Haifa.
The Harvard student organization Alliance for Justice in the Middle East organized a campaign and action to bring attention to the university’s relationship with people accused of war crimes. Recently released Wikileaks cables include an Israeli media summary from the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv from May 2007 which discusses the Harvard student action.
Maariv reported that a far-left wing Harvard University group that includes Jews and Israelis distributed “wanted for crimes of war” posters for former IDF chief of staff Dan Halutz.
After the cable was released last week, the Harvard activists noted that “the campaign to expose Harvard’s sordid links to alleged war criminals such as General Dan Halutz came to the attention of the highest levels of the U.S. government.”

I don't doubt that the war criminals in Israel and the US government paid attention to the Harvard protest. What concerns me is: what are they planning to do about it?

Sometimes universities listen. I was in student demonstrations at UC Davis during the Cambodian invasion. The administration let us look at their files to see if the campus had war-related research, which it did. It isn't always easy, though. YOu have to struggle for it. Good luck to the protesters at Harvard!
