Grassroots activist Bassem Tamimi was arrested at his West Bank village of Nabi Saleh on 25 March and has been in detention ever since. Last January, The Electronic Intifada contributor Max Blumenthal interviewed Tamimi about the village’s popular struggle against the occupation, of which he and his wife and brother have been central figures. Public servant Bassem Mohammed al-Tamimi is from al-Nabi Saleh, a small village about 20 kilometers northwest of Ramallah. As coordinator of the local Popular Committee, Tamimi has played a leading role in al-Nabi Saleh’s demonstrations against the nearby illegal Israeli settlement and military base of Halamish.
