Bassam al-Hajjar lives in Gaza City. He started sculpting when he was just 4 years old.
He’s been a professional artist for 30 years and has made some 500 sculptures.
“I experimented with paper and wire,” al-Hajjar told The Electronic Intifada. “I did my first pottery when I was 14.”
Al-Hajjar has participated in exhibitions in the occupied West Bank and Israel.
He sculpts everything from Palestinian pastoral scenes, ancient coins and historic battles.
Al-Hajjar’s work has also depicted Israel’s present-day siege and military assaults in the Gaza Strip.
