One Palestinian killed, one wounded, in misuse of weapons

A Palestinian Dies from a Previous Wound in Deir al-Balah and another One Wounded in Gaza City Due to the Misuse of Weapons

According to investigations conducted by PCHR, at approximately 21:00 on Saturday, 25 November 2006, medical sources at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City declared that ‘Ali Saleh Sarsour, 19, from the central Gaza Strip town of Deir al-Balah, died from a wound he had sustained on Wednesday evening, 22 November 2006. Sarsour was hit by a live bullet to the head from an unknown source, when he was near his house in Deir al-Balah.

Earlier on Saturday, at approximately 19:30, Sa’ed Mufeed ‘Awadallah, 21, from al-Shati refugee camp west of Gaza City, was evacuated to Shifa Hospital in the city, after he had been wounded by a live bullet to the right foot. ‘Awadallah was in the consolation house of a Palestinian who had been killed by Israeli Occupation Forces, when a number of gunmen opened fire in protest to the killing.

PCHR is gravely concerned over repeated casualties resulting from the misuse of weapons, which has become a prominent feature of the ongoing security chaos in the Occupied PalestinianTerritory. PCHR calls upon the Palestinian National Authority, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these incidents and bring those who are found responsible to justice.

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) is an independent legal body based in Gaza City dedicated to protecting human rights, promoting the rule of law and upholding democratic principles in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. It holds Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations and is an affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists, the Federation Internationale des Ligues des Droits de l’Homme (FIDH), and the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Network. PCHR is a recipient of the 1996 French Republic Award for Human Rights.
