One killed, three injured by unknown gunman

Executive Force Member Killed & Three Injured by Unknown Gunmen in Gaza City

Yesterday evening, unknown gunmen fired at 4 members of the Izzedeen El-Qassam Battalions, the armed wing of Hamas, in Gaza City. One of the targeted individuals, Mohammad Deeb Salim Abu Karsh (24) from Gaza City, was killed and three were injured. One of the injuries is serious.

PCHR’s preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 21:30 on Tuesday, 6 February 2007, unknown gunmen fired at four members of Izzedeen El-Qassam Battalions, the armed wing of Hamas, in Lod-Ramla Street in Gaza City. The shooting resulted in the killing of Mohammad Abu Karsh by bullets to the chest, abdomen, and extremities. The other three members of the Battalions were injured:

  • Helmi Mahmoud Abed (26) was injured by bullets in the feet;
  • Kamal Awad Banat (38) was injured by a bullet in the right thigh; and
  • Mohammad Abu Namous (22) was seriously injured by a bullet to the abdomen.

    Abu Karsh was pronounced dead upon arrival at Shifa Hospital in Gaza City.

    The injured member, Kamal Banat, informed PCHR’s fieldworker that ten masked gunmen intercepted their vehicle in Lod-Ramla Street. They forced them out of the car at gunpoint. Then they fired at Abu Karsh, killing him instantly. Then they lined the other members on the wall and fired at them.

    PCHR is extremely concerned over this new crime, which is a continuum of the internal fighting despite the latest ceasefire. The Centre calls upon the PNA, represented by the Attorney-General, to seriously investigate these crimes, and bring the perpetrators to justice.
