IOF violations continue in Gaza with four Palestinians killed

Following yesterday’s mass murder in Beit Hanoun, the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continued its attacks on Gaza. Four Palestinians have been killed and four others wounded from Israeli fire over the day in the Gaza Strip. The death toll has reached 80 in the north of the Gaza Strip (87 in the whole of the Gaza Strip) since the start of the IOF operations in Gaza on 1 November 2006.

At 7.10pm Wednesday, 8 November 2006, IOF killed 32-year-old Rajab Awad and injured one person when an Israeli drone fired a missile at a car in the Zeitoun neighborhood in Gaza City.

Also Wednesday, Israeli troops stationed east of Jabalia opened fire at approximately 9.20am, and killed 17-year-old Nimir Abu Nadi, who died as bullets hit his chest and head. One other person was also wounded in this attack.

At 1.30pm the same day, IOF opened fire at a neighboring area in Jabalia and killed 23-year-old Iyad Abu Swelem, who died from live bullets to his head. IOF restricted the access of ambulances to the area and, further, opened fire at one ambulance. IOF also fired two missiles Wednesday morning at east Jabalia injuring three Palestinians, one of whom was a 10-year-old boy.

Israeli marine forces also fired at Palestinian fishermen in north Gaza coast Wednesday night. No casualties were reported.

Al Mezan Center is gravely concerned about the continued attacks on civilian targets by IOF in north Gaza. Such attacks have caused numerous casualties recently and have thus far gone unchecked.

Al Mezan has repeatedly called upon the international community, particularly the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention and the UN, to end its silence and intervene and provide protection for Palestinian civilians and their property in the OPT. The absence of such actions will only lead to more violations and victims.

Al Mezan, additionally, reiterates its demand for an effective investigation into the recent mass murder by the IOF in north Gaza, and to bring those who ordered and perpetrated it to justice.
