23 October 2003
Dear Editor,
Your headline on page 17 of the 16 October 2003 edition of The Independent — concerning the deaths of three Americans in a diplomatic convoy — asserts: “For the First Time, Americans become the Victims in Gaza.”
This raises an interesting question: Who was Rachel Corrie if not an American? Must we assume that the victims of Israeli state violence are, ipso facto, stateless?
Sincerely,
