Widespread strikes could be in store for East Jerusalem at the start of the next school year as an Israeli-controlled municipality moves ahead with its plan to implement an Israeli curriculum in Palestinian schools.

Human rights groups in Israel are protesting the new Israeli law passed yesterday which “prohibits boycott of businesses, universities, and social and cultural institutions based in Israel and the illegal settlements, and imposes heavy financial sanctions against civil society organizations and businesses that participate in boycotts.”

Sleep deprived and suffering from a broken leg, 16-year-old Muhammad Halabiyeh endured days of torture at the hands of Israeli soldiers and police officers, who punched him repeatedly in the face and abdomen, shoved needles into his hand and leg, and threatened the Palestinian teenager with sexual abuse.

Bilin protesters bulldoze part of Israel's illegal wall

The Popular Struggle Coordination Committee reports today that the Israeli army opened fire at a Palestinian protester operating a bulldozer at a gate in the wall in Bilin village today. Hundreds protested today during the weekly demonstration in the occupied West Bank village today, after the Israeli army finally began to implement this week an Israeli high court decision made four years ago to dismantle part of the illegal Israeli wall in the village.

Rights groups challenge Israeli secret service impunity

Adalah, the Legal Center for Arab Minority rights in Israel, and Nadi al-Aseer, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club, filed a pre-petition on 11 May demanding an end to detention in prison facilities run by Israel’s secret service agency.

Israeli high court decision a serious setback for Gaza war crimes victims

The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights issued the following press release on Saturday, 30 April following the Israel high court’s rejection of an appeal to extend the two-year statute of limitations imposed on filing compensation cases.  According to PCHR, this ruling “epresents a serious setback for the victims, and their legitimate quest for accountability and redress.”
