While world attention remains focused on whether or not the UN will admit as a full member a nonexistent Palestinian state, Israeli occupation forces are escalating their very real demolitions of Palestinian homes and infrastructure in the occupied West Bank.

On 8 September, Chris Gunness, spokesman for UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestine Refugees, stated:

Aid efforts have begun for some of the thousands of Palestinians forced to flee from a refugee camp in the Syrian coastal city of Latakia earlier this week.

Thousands of Palestinian refugees have fled their camp in the city of Latakia on Syria’s Mediterranean coast amid an assault in the area by Syrian forces, UNRWA Spokesman Chris Gunness told The Electronic Intifada by telephone from Gaza.

As children in Gaza break numerous world records, UNRWA, the UN agency that serves them, appears to be taking a more forthright approach toward Israel’s “collective punishment.”
