A UK immigration court ruled yesterday that popular Palestinian leader Sheikh Raed Salah could be deported from the country, after being banned by Home Secretary Theresa May in June. The Electronic Intifada can now also exclusively reveal new details of an Israeli government role in the UK plot to exclude Salah.

A plan to force Palestinian schools in occupied East Jerusalem to only use textbooks assembled and published by the Israeli ministry of education is part of an ongoing attempt to erase Palestinian identity, history and culture from the city.

Widespread strikes could be in store for East Jerusalem at the start of the next school year as an Israeli-controlled municipality moves ahead with its plan to implement an Israeli curriculum in Palestinian schools.
