The recent murder of Hussam Rwidy, a Palestinian, by Jewish youths allegedly shouting “Death to Arabs” has highlighted the link between racist incitement and violence. The underlying ideology that fuels this hatred is Jewish nationalism, as Max Blumenthal and Joseph Dana argue.

Hundreds of Palestinians, Israelis and international supporters converged in the occupied West Bank village of Bilin last week to commemorate the death of villager Jawaher Abu Rahmah and to stand up for their rights.

”I am in shock, we are in shock,” Hamde Abu Rahmah told me as we stood outside the small cemetery in Bilin where 36-year-old Jawaher Abu Rahmah was buried on Saturday. One day earlier, on 31 December, Jawaher was killed after inhaling US-made tear-gas fired by Israeli soldiers at demonstrators in the occupied West Bank village. Joseph Dana reports from Bilin.

Protests erupted in the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan today after a guard at an Israeli settlement opened fire at Palestinian residents, killing at least one. Joseph Dana reports from the scene of the revolt.

The Palestinian families which live along Route 60 in the South Hebron Hills in the occupied West Bank have no recourse when settlers attack. The area is under full Israeli civil and military control leaving the Ramallah-based Palestinian Authority relatively helpless in dealing with problems caused by Israeli settlers. In the early hours of 10 August, Israeli forces destroyed — for the third time — the Bedouin village of al-Araqib in the northern Negev desert. Israel had first destroyed the village on 27 July, and again each time the villagers have attempted to rebuild. Joseph Dana witnessed the latest destruction.
