EU Presidency on new construction in West Bank settlement (3 August 2004)
In the wake of reports that Israel is planning to build 600 new housing units in the largest Jewish settlement in the occupied West Bank, Ma'ale Adumim, the EU expressed its concerns. (Added 8 August 2004)

The Presidency of the European Union expresses its concern about confirmed reports that the Government of Israel has approved 600 new housing units in a settlement in the occupied West Bank (Maale Adumim). Such plans run counter to both the letter and the spirit of the Roadmap for peace that Israel has accepted. The Presidency urges both Israel and the Palestinians to abide by their obligations under the Roadmap in close cooperation with the Quartet.
