Q: Can I use photographs from your site?

EI: No. Photographic images are the property of the photographer. It is forbidden under copyright laws to republish images in any electronic or print format without the express permission of the photographer. Where photos have been donated to EI, we provide links in the photo caption to the photographer's website, when available. Some photographers may be willing to grant permission for your use of their images. Other images on EI have been purchased from wire service photo aggregators and are only licensed for use by EI. In addition, using HTML to link to images on our server so that they display on your page is expressly forbidden.

Q: Can I print out Electronic Intifada articles or forward them in e-mails?

EI: Yes. At the bottom of every article on our site, you will see a "print this" icon and an "e-mail this" icon. Please make use of these to disseminate our articles as much as you like. EI materials are used in classrooms, at activist events, at conferences, and at protests. Please feel free to mass produce them for such use, as long as you are not profiting commercially from their distribution. Drop us a line, not to ask for permission but just to let us know. We appreciate that our work is reaching a larger audience because of you.

Q: Can I reprint an Electronic Intifada article in a forthcoming compilation book?

EI: Please ask. We need to put you in touch with the author.

Q: Can I read the text of EI reports on the radio?

EI: Yes. Please let people know the source and do give out our URL, electronicIntifada.net. Drop us a line, not to ask for permission but just to let us know. We appreciate that our work is reaching a larger audience because of you.

Q: Can I reprint Electronic Intifada articles on my website?

EI: Please ask. Some of our content we will let go, some we do not. In general, if you are merely republishing the occasional EI article we will probably say yes.

For key articles, such as investigative reports, EI exclusives, breaking news articles -- and in general -- we would prefer that you linked to the articles on our site. We do not move articles, so your links will not expire. We would prefer that summaries and links are given to our articles from sites like Indymedia, as we often update information over time and do not wish out of date or partial information to be out there.

Instead of reprinting EI material, why not check out our wire service for websites, the EI WIRE. With our webfeed generator, accessible from this page, you can generate a code that will automatically syndicate headlines, dates and summaries (the latter two are optional) from any or all of the sections on our website onto your site, which will be updated on your site soon as they are on our site.

Q: Do you offer RSS or XML web feeds for syndication?

EI: This question tends to be asked by bloggers whose blogging software or server does not allow Java syndication. The short answer is: not yet. The company that produces our website software is working on implementing these standards. We will post information on their availablity as soon as possible. Our e-mail news lists already offer RSS feeds.

Q: Can I republish EI articles in my print publication?

EI: Please ask. Typically the answer is yes, on the condition that a link is offered to EI's website and full credit is given to the author/s. Please note that we often do not have permission to disseminate images by photographers but we can put you in touch with them.

Q: Are there any exceptions to the above permissions?

EI: Yes. We expressly deny permission to any organisations that promote discrimination against any race, ethnic minority, religion, nationality, or culture. This would include white supremacy, anti-Semitic, and similar groups. We do not want you to use our information to give your cause undeserved credibility.
