Concert interrupted by PA police over song critical of UN statehood bid

At the Palestinian New Year’s festival at Arafat Square in Ramallah, musician Basel Zayed and his group Turab were prevented from completing their music concert by the Palestinian police because the group sang “El-Doleh” ; a satirical song about the Palestinian promised state.

Christmas in Bethlehem

Bethlehem, the city of peace and the birthplace of Jesus Christ, has become a ghetto in the world we know today thanks to the Israeli occupation. With over 23 physical barriers surrounding the city, apartheid wall cutting through its outskirts, and settlements strangling the city of Bethlehem from all directions, the idea of living there or even visiting this holy city has become an unpleasant and dreadful idea.

Film: Donor Opium

Donor Opium is a new documentary film directed by Mariam Shahin and George Azar about the impact of international aid to Palestinians. The film features Palestinian criticisms of this externally funded “development”. Featured speakers are Khaled Sabawi, Sami Abdel-Shafi, Linda Tabar, Iyad Al Riyahi and Khalil Nakhleh.

Statement in solidarity with Razan Ghazzawi

This is a statement by Palestinian bloggers and activists supporting all political prisoners of the Syrian Revolution, it reads:

We, a group of Palestinian bloggers and activists raise our voices loud and clear in solidarity with all the prisoners of the Great Syrian Revolution. We stand with all the prisoners, activists, artists, bloggers and others, all who are shouting in the streets or on various platforms demanding freedom and justice, while decrying the huge amount on injustice and oppression practiced by the Syrian regime for more than four decades.

Uproar as Qatar depicts "Palestine" as just the West Bank and Gaza

Palestinians have launched a website dedicated for the civic registration drive for elections to the Palestinian National Council (PNC), the supreme legislative body of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

Freedom Waves participants still detained in Israeli prison

Only six out of the original 27 Freedom Waves participants have been released, twenty-one participants are still detained in Israeli prisons.  Egyptian journalist with Almasry Alyoum, Lina Attalah was the first to be released, she was handed over to officials at the Egyptian Embassy in Israel who later escorted her back home to Egypt through Taba crossing, Lina wrote an eyewitness account which can be found here.

UPDATED: Urgent: ships BOARDED by Israeli Navy

UPDATED (16:40 – 4 November 2011).  PRESS RELEASE:  Freedom Waves to Gaza – ‘FREEDOM WAVES TO GAZA BOARDED BY ISRAELI MILITARY’.  

Canadian and Irish ships sailing with Freedom Waves to Gaza have been illegally boarded by the Israeli military in international waters a short while ago. 

Actions in support with the FreedomWaves ships

Demonstrations were held today in Ramallah and Gaza in support with the Freedom Waves flotilla on it’s way to Gaza.

Protesters in Ramallah marched from Manara Square to a UN building to demand protection for the Freedom Waves flotilla.

Palestinian youth also submitted a statement demanding UN action to protect the boats and end complicity with the Gaza siege.
