Amnesty to Israel: Release or try Khader Adnan, gravely ill after 51 days hunger strike

Amnesty International today told Israel to release or try Khader Adnan, the gravely ill Palestinian prisoner who has been on hunger strike for 51 continuous days, ever since his arrest by Israeli occupation forces in the West Bank on 17 December.

During Nabi Saleh’s latest protest, tear gas canisters were once again fired at a group of peaceful protesters at head level, injuring a French and a Dutch activist. “The Israeli Border Police told me I was hit by a rock thrown by a Palestinian” says French activist Amicie P. “It’s crazy because it’s so obvious I wasn’t.”

Yesterday was another violent Friday in the village of Nabi Saleh as the weekly protests against settlement expansion continues. As always, the demonstration was met with tear gas, disgusting skunk chemicals and rubber-coated metal bullets. Disregarding cases of suffocation, 20 injuries were reported.

Palestinians Owe Ban Ki-moon No Apologies

After this “disrespectful welcome” of Ban Ki-moon by the angry families of prisoners and martyrs, the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) shamefully sent apologies to him. But I’ll allow myself to speak on behalf of Palestinians and say proudly: “We make no apologies!” And I add: “The PLO doesn’t represent us.” Palestinians aren’t the ones who should apologize.
